Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) 2024–25
The Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) 2024–25, released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on 30 September 2026, presents key structural and performance indicators of India’s registered manufacturing sector for April 2024–March 2025. ASI provides data on factories, employment, wages, capital, input, output and value addition, and is an important input for policymaking and National Accounts Statistics.
Key Findings
- Registered manufacturing establishments: Increased from 2,60,061 in 2023–24 to 2,66,931 in 2024–25, a growth of 2.64%.
- Employment: Total persons engaged increased from 1.96 crore to 2.10 crore, registering 7.19% growth and adding more than 14 lakh persons.
- Gross Value Added (GVA): Increased from ₹24.58 lakh crore to ₹26.94 lakh crore, registering 9.59% growth.
- Fixed capital: Increased by 10.54%, while invested capital grew by 11.10%.
- Industrial output: Increased by 7.81%.
- Total emoluments: Increased by 12.08%, indicating stronger growth in employee remuneration.
- Net income: Increased by 9.68%, while net profit rose by 7.73%.
Sectoral & State-wise Distribution
The five major industries—Basic Metals, Motor Vehicles, Chemicals & Chemical Products, Pharmaceuticals and Food Products—together contributed more than 45% of manufacturing GVA.
Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana together accounted for more than 56% of manufacturing employment. Tamil Nadu also recorded the highest number of establishments (41,221), followed by Gujarat (33,084) and Maharashtra (27,379).
Significance of ASI 2024–25
- Measures manufacturing performance: Provides comprehensive data on output, GVA, employment, wages, capital and profitability, enabling assessment of India’s organised manufacturing sector.
- Supports National Accounts: ASI data are an important input for estimating manufacturing-sector GVA and other National Accounts aggregates.
- Guides industrial policy: Industry- and state-wise data help identify leading sectors, industrial clusters, investment patterns and regional disparities for targeted policymaking.
- Tracks employment and investment: Data on employment, emoluments and fixed capital formation help assess job creation, wage trends and expansion of productive capacity.
- Supports manufacturing-led growth: ASI provides an evidence base for policies related to Make in India, industrial competitiveness, employment generation and balanced regional industrial development.
