UNFCC COP – 30
The 2025 edition of COP30 was held from 10 to 21 November 2025 in Belem, Brazil which a city in the Amazon region. The choice of Belém, at the gate of the Amazon rainforest was symbolic: highlighting the critical importance of tropical forests and biodiversity alongside climate change.
About
- COP30 is the 30th session of the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) which is the annual global climate summit where nearly all countries meet to negotiate collective action on climate change.
- The conference brings together national governments, scientists, civil-society groups, business leaders, indigenous communities and other stakeholders to decide on climate targets, adaptation, mitigation, funding, and more.
Key Outcomes & Highlights from COP30 (2025)
- The summit concluded with a global agreement to tripling funding for developing countries to help them adapt to climate impacts and transition to clean energy.
- New initiatives on forest and biodiversity conservation gained importance, re-emphasizing the role of forests in climate solutions.
- The conference also placed emphasis on linking health systems, migration, displacement, and climate change recognizing that climate impacts directly affect human wellbeing and require integrated solutions.
- Global Mutirão Agreement: COP 30 ended with the Global Mutirão Agreement, which prioritizes cooperation and implementation rather than new mandatory targets. Brazil launched the Global Mutirão Platform, a digital initiative to drive collective climate action and narrow the gap between commitments and implementation, with a focus on accelerating progress in energy, finance, and trade.
- Belém 4x Pledge: This pledge aims to quadruple the use of sustainable fuels by 2035 compared to 2024 levels, with flexibility for national circumstances. The International Energy Agency (IEA) will monitor progress annually. It focuses on scaling fuels like hydrogen, biofuels, biogas, and e-fuels at affordable costs to support the energy transition, especially in transport and industry.
- The Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF) is a Brazil-led initiative launched to create a permanent, self-financing investment fund for tropical forest conservation.
