Revised National Programme for Dairy Development
Introduction
- Type: Central Sector Scheme
- Objective: To modernize dairy infrastructure, enhance milk procurement and processing, ensure quality control, and improve farmer incomes.
Key Components
Component A: Infrastructure & Outreach
- Focus: Strengthening dairy infrastructure (milk chilling plants, FTIR labs, testing systems).
- Promotes:
-Formation of new Village Dairy Cooperative Societies (VDCS).
-Milk procurement especially in NER, hilly regions, UTs.
-Grant support for 2 new Milk Producer Companies (MPCs).
Component B: Dairying Through Cooperatives (DTC)
- Implemented in collaboration with Japan and JICA.
- Targets: Sustainable cooperative development in 9 states – AP, Bihar, MP, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand, UP, WB.
- Focus: Enhancing production, processing, and marketing infrastructure.
Achievements & Impact
- Beneficiaries: Over 18.74 lakh farmers.
- Employment: 30,000+ jobs created so far; expected to generate 3.2 lakh more.
Future Goals
- Establish 10,000 new Dairy Cooperative Societies.
- Strengthen dairy processing in North Eastern Region
- Boost women participation (who form 70% of the dairy workforce).
Align with White Revolution 2.0 to modernize rural dairy ecosystems.
