- Tulsidas, whose real name was Ram Bola Dubey, influential poet-philosopher of Varanasi.
- Tulsidas lived during the 16th and 17th centuries, specifically from 1511 to 1623.
- The 16th century author of the Ramcharitmanas, wrote his ‘ people’s Ramayana in Awadhi dialect, which is primarily spoken in the districts of Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya of Uttar Pradesh.
- Tulsidas popularised the story of Lord Ram. He portrayed Lord Rama as the ideal king, husband, and son, emphasizing his unwavering righteousness and compassion.
- Tulsi’s repeated spiritual advice for people living out their lives in this particular Kalyug – Singing in praise of Ram is the only path to salvation.
- He was protected by fellow-poet Abdur Rahim Khan-e-Khanan, the Mughal governor of Varanasi.
- Promoted moral values, devotion, and humility. Through his writings, he united society spiritually, cutting across caste and social boundaries.
- Other Works: Hanuman Chalisa, Vinay Patrika, Dohavali.
- His compositions like Hanuman Chalisa are still recited daily in many Indian homes.
