Innovative Bio-Ink SNAP-X for Coral Reef Restoration
News
SNAP-X is a bio-ink coating made from crustose coralline algae (CCA) that helps coral larvae settle and supports coral reef restoration.
- Inspired by CCA, SNAP-X releases natural chemicals into seawater to attract coral larvae, just like CCA does.
- It results in increased coral settlement by more than 20 times. It works well even in natural seawater with continuous water flow.
Advantages:
- Supports natural coral recruitment, enhancing genetic diversity and resilience.
- Avoids issues with genetically identical nursery-grown corals.
- Since SNAP-X is made from non-living materials, it is more likely to receive approval for use in real-world marine environments.
