- It is a small, nocturnal primate native to India and Sri Lanka.
- There are two species of slender loris – the red slender loris and the grey slender loris.
- While the red slender loris is found in Sri Lanka, the grey slender loris is found in both Sri Lanka and India.
- The slender loris has a soft and dense fur typically ranging from gray to brown with a lighter underside.

- The most striking feature of the slender loris is its enormous, round eyes, which provide excellent night vision.
- It is an arboreal creature and uses its long arms and legs to move through trees.
- The diet of the slender loris comprises insects, small vertebrates, fruits, etc
Threats
- Slender lorises are often captured for use in traditional medicine or sold as exotic pets.
- The clearing of forests for agriculture, logging and mining has led to loss of natural habitat.
- Electrocution from live wires and road accidents have lead to a decline in their population
- Increase in wildfires fueled by climate change is impacting the population of slender lorises.
Conservation status
- As per IUCN Red List , Red Slender loris is Endangered and the Grey slender loris is Near threatened
- The Grey slender loris is listed under Schedule I of the Wildlife protection Act, 2022.
