About MISHTI 

• In the Union Budget 2023-34, the government announced the MISHTI (Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats & Tangible Incomes) initiative that will facilitate mangrove plantation along India’s coastline and on salt pan lands. 
• The programme will operate through convergence between MGNREGS, Campa Fund and other sources.
• This new programme will aim at intensive afforestation of coastal mangrove forests. 

Why in News?

• The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change organised a mangrove plantation program at Kovalam Panchayat in Chengalpattu District in Tamil Nadu.
