The Power of Less
Leo Babauta
The book The Power of Less depicts the importance of focusing ourselves to what is essential by giving up the unessential things. It is impossible to manage everything at a particular time. In today’s world, we are bombarded with a lot of information and we are given so many tasks to be completed within a short time. Therefore, it is important to choose between necessary and unnecessary things. Choosing right things in life will make us more focused and can have a positive impact on our goals. Doing unnecessary things can end up in wasting our precious time. Here are some success tips to follow.
- Have a clear idea on your priorities
If you want to focus on necessary things, it is important to have a clear understanding about the priorities in life. This will enable you to move away from unimportant things. So the better way is to ask questions to yourself like the important goals to pursue, desires, duties and answering these questions can make things easy.
- Spend enough time for your priorities
Restricting ourselves from unimportant things will help us to utilize our time and energy for our priorities. E.g., a person who considers family as the most important thing should spend enough time with your loved ones. This helps to make others understand about our priorities and will stop disturbing unwanted things.
- Changing habits can change your life
It is very important to have positive habits to make positive changes in life. Trying to develop one particular habit at a time is much better as there is less chance for giving them up. Telling your ideas and plans to others will guide, motivate and strengthen your actions towards your goal. It is also suggested to review your progress each day.
- Improve your habits slowly and consistently
We must have heard the proverb that slow and steady wins the race. This applies to everything in life. It may not be possible to make a change within a day. Trying to make changes within a short time can demotivate and frustrate us .Therefore, there is a high chance that you give them up. Slow but consistent habits are more successful than fast and inconsistent ones.
- Divide your plans into goals ,sub goals and projects
We may find it easy to set the goals but find it difficult to achieve them. It may be harder for us to manage all our tasks together. Therefore, it is important to divide your plans into various goals and sub-goals. Always focus on the main goal and make sure that your sub-goals are linked to your main one. So, when we achieve these sub-goals, we come closer to the main goal.
- Live in present and stay focused
We may have to do several tasks in a single day. To complete them successfully, focus on a single task at a particular time as multitasking can be ineffective. If you are tired or distracted, take a small break by doing some exercise or meditation so that it helps to get back your focus and attention.
- Begin your day with important tasks.
As mentioned before, multitasking can be ineffective. Dividing your tasks to different subtasks can make it easy for you to fulfill them. Always begin your routine with the most important work then the second important and likewise do them in the order of importance.
- Reduce time spent on digital devices
Features in digital like emails and chat boxes can make you waste time without any purpose. It may not have anything to do with your goals. Always set a limit for reading out unwanted messages that come to your chat box. Make use of your leisure time to read them out.
Always have a clear understanding about your goals in life and see what is essential and inessential. Giving priority for important things can make you more focused and will enable you to utilize the time in a more effective manner. This will make things simple and can help you in achieving success.
