The Science of Intelligent Achievement
The Science of Intelligent Achievement

What’s in the book for you?
We all have set many goals in our personal and professional life but get perplexed athow to fulfill it.
The Science of Intelligent Achievement (2018) introduces three tools that help you make your goals practical. When you are equipped with these tools – Selective Focus, Creative Ownership, and Pragmatic Growth, you will be able to design a creative and productive action plan for a fruitful life.
Be selective in focusing.
To have selective focus is to get focused on how to spend time and mental energy. An average person will have 2 hours of extreme mental focus, 5 hours of relatively high mental focus, and a poor focus level for the rest of the time. If you work even in the hours of poor focus level, you get exhausted and mental energy gets depleted. So, the first step is to say no to unproductive activities that demand your attention so that it saves your time.
The next step to selective focus is to have deliberate practice. We engage in distractions finding it pleasurable and beneficial than the works associated with your life goals. But such activities consume your valuable time and can only get you momentary happiness. If you engage in deliberate practice, you can finish your targets within remarkably less time than the time you take when you engage in distractions in between.
Even though it’s advisable to look for others’ opinions, be selective in taking these opinions since it can be life-renewing as well as poisoning. Keep distance with pessimists and surround yourself with people who wish your progress.
Following these steps will help you have selective focus and in turn get enough time for your mind to get replenished, to work creatively and efficiently.
Have creative ownership.
Having creative ownership is to free yourself to work for your own goals rather than others’. To achieve creative ownership, you should start by creating and marketing your own content. Make use of the Disney Method to produce your own creative content of high quality. When you start on the first draft of your idea, shut off your critical inner voice. When you proceed to your second draft, turn on your inner voice partially. With the third and final draft, put your inner voice on full power to scrutinize your idea. After the final draft, you should be ready with a full-fledged and engaging action plan.
Once you have your own creative content, you need to build a loyal customer base. Market your products using lead magnets that provide a free item or service that attracts customers and compels them to give their details to eventually buy your product. A lead magnet can be free consultations, trial subscriptions, etc. You can seek help from google and other website tools to know the customers’ interests to choose the most effective lead magnet.
Build up a pragmatic mindset.
Having a pragmatic mindset helps you to be proactive and take logical decisions even at times of emotional imbalance. Pragmatic mindset even helps you to overcome self-doubt, stress, and pessimistic thoughts like ‘I can’t do it’. You can build up a pragmatic mindset by recognizing good things to appreciate them at least for 12 seconds. Engaging in small, doable tasks at times when you feel like you can never do it will also help you to eliminate negativity.
Most often, a ‘to-do’ list consists of dissimilar and unrelated tasks and it gets us exhausted. For the satisfaction of completing a task, we end up focusing only on the relatively smaller tasks. So, a ‘to-do’ list never gets us closer to our goals and results in wastage of time. Say no to such distracting ‘to-do’ list and focus on the works that get directly to your goal.
Escape the pitfalls to productivity.
- Accepting gifts – Don’t accept rewards from others that seem to be a ploy.
- Lack of a morning routine – Having a regular morning routine will save your mental energy to spend on important tasks.
- Failure in prioritizing busywork – Focus on the big goals and take the steps to achieve it.
- Prioritizing easy tasks over difficult ones – Give equal importance to all tasks irrespective of its difficulty.
- Relying on an eight-hour workday – Work only when you have high mental energy. Take enough time to rest and recuperate.
- Getting distracted by smartphones or social media platforms- Avoid checking social media, messages, and e-mails frequently.
- Giving in for others’ interests – Say no to these by clearly stating that you don’t want to take new responsibilities.
Summary
With a pragmatic mindset, if focus your attention on truly important things by filtering distractions, people’s request and negative comments, you will be independent and productive enough to attain intelligent achievement.
