Unified District Information System for Education Plus(UDISE+)
What is UDISE+?
UDISE+ is a unified, online platform that acts as a standardized national database for school education in India. Embracing the “one nation, one database” approach, it collects standardized data through an online annual data collection system, enabling timely and reliable educational statistics from all government-recognized and affiliated schools (including formal and special education) across the country.
What Data Does It Collect?
The platform organizes its data collection into four main areas:
- School Directory: Manages basic school profiles, including school type, management, location, and user onboarding.
- School Profile & Facilities: Tracks physical infrastructure, digital tools, classrooms, laboratories, and student services such as drinking water, toilets, electricity, libraries, playgrounds, and ramps.
- Student Details: Tracks enrolled students using a unique 11-digit Permanent Education Number (PEN), supporting student identification and transfers across participating schools.
- Teacher Details: Records qualifications, professional experience, training, and other details of teaching and non-teaching staff using a National Teacher Code for streamlined nationwide tracking.
Key Features
- Unique Tracking: Every recognized school is assigned a unique 11-digit UDISE code for secure identification and data entry.
- Multi-Level Management: Data are monitored and verified across school, block, district, state, and national administrative levels.
- Data Integrity & Security: Built-in validation checks help reduce manual errors, while role-based access and security protocols protect sensitive school, teacher, and student data.
- Public Access: Features a public Know Your School dashboard that provides access to school report cards and key performance indicators (KPIs), promoting transparency.
- Advanced Tools: Includes GIS mapping of schools and provides online dashboards and regularly updated reports to support educational planning and administration.
Impact & Outcomes
- Better Policies: Provides standardized data that help policymakers and administrators make evidence-based decisions, including supporting the implementation and monitoring of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
- Tracking Progress: Annual data collection enables administrators to analyze educational trends over time and evaluate the effectiveness of government programmes and interventions.
- Transparency: Public access to verified school information through the Know Your School portal promotes transparency, facilitates continuous monitoring, and strengthens accountability within the school education system.
