About Lakhpati Didi scheme

• • Lakhpati Didi scheme under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) aims to encourage women to start micro-enterprises. It was announced in 2023.

• DAY-NRLM is a flagship poverty alleviation program implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development.

• Launched in 2011, it aims to reduce poverty by enabling the poor household to access gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities resulting in sustainable and diversified livelihood options for the poor. 

• The scheme aims to train women in self-help groups and enable them to earn an income of at least Rs 1 lakh per annum per household. 
• Each SHG household is encouraged to take up multiple livelihood activities coupled with value chain interventions, resulting in a sustainable income of Rs 1 lakh or more in a year.
• During the Interim Budget 2024, the Government of India decided to enhance the target for Lakhpati Didi to 3 crore households from the existing 2 crore.

WHy in News?

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to interact with Lakhpati Didis and also give certificates to new 11 lakh lakhpati Didis’. 
• In this program, the Prime Minister will release a revolving fund – Community Investment Fund of Rs 2500 crore, which will benefit about 48 lakh members of 4.3 lakh Self Help Groups (SHGs).
