About Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP)
- In 2015, the Government of India introduced the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (‘Save the girl child, educate the girl child’) scheme to address concerns about gender discrimination and women empowerment in the country.
- It is a tri-ministerial effort of Ministries of Women and Child Development, Health & Family Welfare and Education.
- BBBP addresses the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and related issues of women empowerment over a life-cycle continuum.
- The objectives of the Scheme are as under:
- Improve the child sex ratio;
- Ensure gender equality and women empowerment;
- Prevent gender-biased, sex-selective elimination;
- Ensure survival and protection of the girl child;
- Encourage education and participation of the girl child.
