About the Scheme
- The Pradhan Mantri Dakshta Aur Kushalta Sampann Hitgrahi, PM-DAKSH Yojana is a Central Sector Scheme being implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment from 2020-21.
- The main objective of the Scheme is to enhance the competency level of the target groups to make them employable both in self- employment and wage-employment for their socio-economic development.
- The target group under this scheme are marginalized persons of Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Backward Classes, De-notified Tribes and Safai karamcharis including waste pickers.
- Under this scheme, any OBC and EWS candidates whose annual family income is less than Rs. 3.00 lakh is eligible to get training whereas there is no income limit for the candidates belonging to SC/DNT/Safai karamcharis including waste pickers.
- Under this Yojana, eligible target groups are being provided skill development training programmes on
(i) Up-skilling/Re-skilling
(ii) Short Term Training Programme
(iii) Long Term Training Programme and
(iv) Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP).
- The scheme is implemented by the three Corporations:
- National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC),
- National Backward Classes Finance & Development Corporation (NBCFDC) &
- National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC).
Why in News?
- The PM-DAKSH Yojana was approved with an outlay of Rs. 450 crores for a five-year period starting from 2021-22 with a target to train 2,71,000 candidates out of which 1,55,208 candidates have been trained till 2023-24.
