What’s in the news?

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched Bima Sakhi Yojana at Panipat in Haryana to promote financial literacy and insurance awareness among women. 
• This initiative of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) will empower women aged 18 to 70 years, who are Class 10th pass, providing specialized training and a stipend for the first three years. 
• The scheme aims to provide rural women with opportunities to become insurance agents, known as Bima Sakhis, and earn a livelihood while promoting insurance awareness in rural areas.
• The LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana is expected to not only create new livelihood opportunities for rural women but also help in enhancing insurance penetration in under-served regions of India. 
• Through this initiative, LIC seeks to combine social welfare with business growth, empowering women while contributing to the broader goal of financial inclusion.
