E-Shram Portal
About the Portal
- The e-shram portal was launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in 2021 to register 38 crore unorganised workers, such as construction labourers, migrant workforce, street vendors and domestic workers, among others.
- The workers are issued an e-Shram card containing a 12 digit unique number. This is a permanent number and valid for lifetime.
- The portal is open to workers engaged in the unorganised sector and aged between 16-59 years.
- There are no income criteria for registering on e-Shram as an unorganised worker. However, the worker should not be an income tax payee.
- The portal would lead to the creation of the first-ever national database of unorganised workers. It is envisaged that all the social security benefits to unorganized workers will be delivered through this portal.
- The portal was developed by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, in technical collaboration with the National Informatics Centre under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
