About RIMPAC
- RIMPAC 2024 is the 29th exercise in the series that began in 1971 and is the world’s largest international maritime exercise hosted by the United States of America (USA).
- It is a biennial exercise designed to foster and sustain cooperative relationships, critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
- The exercise, which takes place in the waters surrounding the Hawaiian Islands, is a unique training platform designed to enhance interoperability and strategic maritime partnerships.
About Redflag
- Redflag is a two-week multinational air exercise hosted by the United States of America (USA) designed to replicate a realistic and challenging environment.
- The exercise brings together aircrew and equipment from different nations and different services.
- The idea is to bring distinct elements to work together in a coordinated manner allowing for a more comprehensive learning environment.
- There are two distinct Red Flag exercise locations at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada and in Alaska.
Why in News?
- Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Navy are taking part in two mega multinational war games- RIMPAC and Red flag hosted by their U.S. counterparts.
