About Strategic Forces Command
- The Strategic Forces Command (SFC), sometimes called Strategic Nuclear Command, forms part of India’s Nuclear Command Authority (NCA).
- The Nuclear Command Authority comprises a Political Council and an Executive Council. The Political Council is chaired by the Prime Minister. It is the sole body which can authorize the use of nuclear weapons.
- The Executive Council is chaired by the National Security Advisor. It provides inputs for decision making by the Nuclear Command Authority and executes the directives given to it by the Political Council.
- It is responsible for the management and administration of the country’s tactical and strategic nuclear weapons stockpile.
- It was created in 2003.

Why in News?
- A successful launch of the new variant of a Medium-Range Ballistic Missile was carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command.
- The user launch has proven the operational capability of the Command and validated new technologies.
