- The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) was established in 1964, as an apex body for exercising general superintendence and control over vigilance administration, through the Government of India Resolution.
- The CVC is not controlled by any Ministry/Department.
- It is an independent body which is only responsible for the Parliament.
- Functions & Powers of CVC:

- To supervise the work of the Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE), or CBI, in carrying out investigations under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, or crimes under the Criminal Procedure Code for certain categories of public employees, and to give the DSPE instructions for carrying out this duty. Functions and powers with respect to Vigilance;
- To conduct an investigation into any transaction in which a public servant working for any organisation that is subject to the executive supervision of the Government of India is suspected or alleged to have acted dishonestly or corruptly, or to cause an investigation to be launched into such a transaction.
Why in News?
- Central Vigilance Commission is observing the Vigilance Awareness Week 2023 from 30th October to 5th November, 2023.
