Gaganyaan Mission
- Gaganyaan is the first manned space program of ISRO
- The module will take three astronauts including a woman to the space
- Under the mission, three flights will be sent.
- The first two flights will be unmanned flights, with one flight carrying the humanoid Vyommitra
- The third flight is expected to be the manned spaceflight
- It is expected to orbit the Earth at low earth orbit at 300-400 Km
- It is to be launched by the advanced launch vehicle, GSLV Mk III or LMV III
- Russian government owned Glavkosmos is providing training for the Indian Astronauts for their space mission
- The first test demonstration is likely to take place in July 2023, with the first unmanned mission to be undertaken only after the success of two such demonstrations
- If it succeeds, India will be the fourth country to have sent a human to space, the other three being the US, Russia and China.
Why in news
- Indigenously developed parachutes for the safe return of the capsule that will carry astronauts under the proposed Gaganyaan programme are set to undergo fitment tests.
