Declaration of Philadelphia

- The Declaration of Philadelphia is a statement of aims adopted by the International Labour Organization in 1944 and embodies basic principles of economic justice.
- It declares the following:
- that labour is not a commodity;
- that freedom of expression and of association are essential to progress;
- that poverty anywhere constitutes a danger to prosperity everywhere; and
- that all human beings, irrespective of race, creed, or sex, have the right to pursue both their material well-being and their spiritual development in conditions of freedom and dignity, of economic security, and equal opportunity.
- The Declaration continues to provide a focus for campaigners for international labour standards.
