Context
- The Wall of Peace, a great work of modern mural art on the 700-feet long compound wall, in Cherpulassery, was inaugurated recently.

- It is a on the 700-feet long compound wall of Government Vocational Higher Secondary School at Cherpulassery, Kerala
- It has won many accolades, including the Eurasia World Record for the largest public art project.
- The word ‘peace’ has been embossed on the wall in 250 world languages.
- Apart from peace, struggle for freedom is used as the key motif.
- The wall has also been a tribute to Cherpulassery’s local heroes of freedom struggle.
- Cherpulassery’s traditional cultural activity like Kaalavela, and Karalmanna’s famous Pandibhojanam too have found a place on the wall.
- Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to the region is also on the Wall of Peace.

- Mural art is the painting of images executed on the walls of large structures.
- The existence of mural paintings in India dates back to 2nd century BC to 10th century AD
- The most common themes of mural paintings were religious and are based on three religions of hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
- The majority of the murals are found in natural caves or rock-cut chambers.
- The most famous mural paintings are Ajanta cave paintings, Ellora cave paintings, Sittanavasal, Lepakshi paintings and Bagh cave paintings.
