• Tapan Kumar Deka, a 1988 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer has been appointed as Director, Intelligence Bureau for a period of two years.

About IB

• It is India’s internal intelligence agency, and carries out counterintelligence and counterterrorism operations.
• The Union Ministry of Home Affairs oversees its operations.
• The British India Government founded it in 1887
• Until the formation of the Research and Analysis Wing in 1968, the IB was also charged with additional duties relating to foreign intelligence.
