About
- The Instrument Landing System (ILS) is a standard precision landing assist developed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). It is used to deliver precise and descent guidance signals to aircraft for landing on the runway in normal or unfavourable weather circumstances.
- In Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) conditions, the instrument landing system facility provides a very accurate and trustworthy means of getting to the runway.
- The ILS provides the required lateral and vertical guidance for a precision approach to be flown.
- The pilot may conduct a precision approach once all components of the ILS system, including the authorised approach method, are accessible.
