Char Dham Yatra

The pilgrimage, considered one of the most sacred by the followers of Hinduism, is a journey to the abodes of four deities: Yamunotri (goddess Yamuna) and Gangotri (goddess Ganga) in Uttarkashi district; Kedarnath (Lord Shiva) in Rudraprayag district; and Badrinath (Lord Vishnu) in Chamoli district.
These four ancient temples also mark the spiritual source of four sacred rivers as well: River Yamuna (Yamunotri), River Ganga or Ganges (Gangotri), River Mandakini (Kedarnath) and River Alaknanda (Badrinath).

The Chardham project involves developing and widening 900-km of national highways connecting the holy Hindu pilgrimage sites of the chardham sites at an estimated cost of Rs 12,000 crores.
The highway will be called Chardham Mahamarg (Chardham Highway) and the highway construction project will be called as Chardham Mahamarg Vikas Pariyojana (Chardham Highway Development Project).
The roads will be widened and the project will involve construction of tunnels, bypasses, bridges, subways and viaducts.
