Climate Breakthroughs Summit

Climate Breakthroughs Summit was conducted on May 27, 2021. Climate leaders at the summit discussed progress in critical sectors of the global economy, including steel, shipping, green hydrogen as well as nature.
It is a collaboration between the World Economic Forum, Mission Possible Partnership, the United Nations Climate Champions, and the United Kingdom Climate Change Conference (COP26) Presidency.
The event came in the backdrop of a Nature journal report, according to which, natural climate solutions have the potential to provide a third of the climate mitigation to reach a 1.5- or 2-degree pathway by 2030.
The Race to Zero campaign was one of the campaigns undertaken in this summit and many companies have volunteered themselves for this campaign in the summit.
The United Nations made a call for coordinated action to secure global net-zero emissions and fulfill its goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels by 2050.

Race To Zero is a global campaign to rally leadership and support from businesses, cities, regions, investors for a healthy, resilient, zero carbon recovery that prevents future threats, creates decent jobs, and unlocks inclusive, sustainable growth.
OBJECTIVE: Committing to halving their emissions by 2030 in line with achieving the long-term goal of full decarbonization under the Paris Agreement.
It mobilizes a coalition of leading net zero initiatives, representing 708 cities, 24 regions, 2,360 businesses, 163 of the biggest investors, and 624 Higher Education Institutions.
It is led by High level Champions for Climate Action – Nigel Topping and Gonzalo Muñoz (They are ambassadors appointed by the UN to coordinate between all stakeholders of climate change).
