About Mountain Bongos

• The mountain bongo is a critically endangered subspecies of the bongo, one of the largest forest antelopes, with a reddish-brown coat, with black, white and yellow-white markings.
• This antelope is the largest, heaviest, and most colorful African forest antelope.
• The mountain bongo is found in the montane forests of the Kenyan highlands, including the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. 
• They are mostly nocturnal. Only about 70-80 adults left in the wild.

Why in the news?

•  A baby mountain bongo was born at Warsaw Zoo in Poland. 
• As it is very difficult to breed, this birth has given hopes to environmentalists to save them from extinction.
