How to Learn Anything 5 Times Faster
How to Learn Anything 5 Times Faster
Are you ‘painfully slow’ at learning? Do you ever look at a thick book and go, “Well, this is an absolute nightmare.”? Do you find yourself dragging your eyes through complicated formulas with steam coming out of your ears? What if there was a way to combat all of this and help you learn whatever you choose with speed and finesse? What we must learn, first and foremost, is HOW TO LEARN!
Follow these 5 tips to learn anything you want 5 times faster:
1.Divide Goals into Micro-Capsules
It is much easier to follow a goal if it is specific and beaten down to its basic element. Take, for example, Timmy and Zoe who both want to get fit as a New Year resolution. Timmy wants to just ‘get fit’ while Zoe wants to do, say, 20 crunches and an hour of cardio every day. Who do you think will achieve their goal faster?
It makes much more sense to do as Zoe does as you can track your progress better as they are well-defined. Keep working on those micro-capsules and feel the immense amount of satisfaction you get after checking one off your list.
2.Be Specific
There is a need to hack your brain and comprehend its process. Each individual is different and learns things at their own pace and using their style. You need to learn mnemonic methods and how to better memorize lists faster. This can be done by knowing yourself better and understanding what works for you and what doesn’t.
As Bertrand Russell once said, “To be able to concentrate for a considerable time is essential to difficult achievement.” Invest the time and energy to sharpen that useful tool called your brain which will throw open a world of opportunities for you, just ripe for the picking.
3. Multiple sessions of Short Duration
Whether it is hiking, exercising, or even reading, it is always better to do it in short, recurring sessions rather than do it in one stretch. You might ask, “But what if I get a lot of work done in one long session? Isn’t that better?” Sadly, no. you might be filled with a false sense of accomplishment after doing so but in the long run, it doesn’t do much help.
Take. for example, playing the guitar. It is better to learn for half an hour every day rather than 4-5 hours together per week. This is because there is a network in our brain called synapses that are constantly firing signals to other neurons. Our body needs a constant stimulus rather than a one-off session.
4.Find a Mentor
All of us need a fresh pair of eyes as when doing anything; we tend to get a bit biased and cannot spot our own mistakes. This is why when we write an article, we need beta readers as we will not be aware enough to point out our shortcomings.
A mentor would also motivate and guide you and remind you why you set out on this journey in the first place. They recognize your blind spots and know just what to say to get you going in the direction you need to go.
5. Develop a Passion for What You’re Doing
This suggestion is a fairly obvious one. If you don’t have a passion for what you’re doing, then what is the point of doing it at all? You’ll never master the art of anything that you aren’t a fan of in the first place. Do something for yourself and not because someone else wants to steer your life.
There will be a lot of sacrifices and risks that you’ll have to take in the course of your journey. Only if you love the end will you enjoy the journey. It’s completely acceptable to not have the passion in the beginning but it should develop on its own after a while. Learn to enjoy the pain that comes with the effort and energy you need to put in.
