About NDC
- The National Defence College (NDC), located in New Delhi, is the highest seat of strategic learning for officers of the Indian Armed Forces and the Civil Services of India.
- The aim of National Defence College is to equip future policy makers with the background necessary for a broad understanding of the varied social, economic, political, military, scientific and organisational aspects involved in the planning of national strategy.
Why in news?
- India is planning to increase the intake from the neighbouring and Central Asian countries for the strategic leadership course in the prestigious National Defence College (NDC).
About the initiative
- The new initiative is being taken in view of the huge demand for seats from several countries like Nepal, Myanmar, Bangladesh apart from new seats to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Philippines, Indonesia and Maldives.
- With increased Chinese presence, India has been scaling up its military to military cooperation as well as capability enhancement in its neighbourhood.
- Recently, the Indian Navy gifted a Russian Kilo class submarine from its inventory to the Myanmar Navy, its first submarine. Military cooperation with South East Asian countries has also significantly gone up in recent years, including with Philippines and Indonesia.
