The Success Principles
The Success Principles
Jack Canfield
In this book, Jack Canfield discusses in detail the various principles that should be adopted to lead a successful and pleasing life. Many of us are at a point where we don’t know how to move forward in achieving our dreams and this book provides you with insights that will help you make real progress both in your personal and professional life.
The first step towards realizing your goals lies in understanding that you are the director of your own life. It is important to take responsibility for your actions and change the way you respond to different situations to start seeing a change. You have to start being more aware of your choices and decisions and reaching the goal requires patience, discipline, determination and experimentation.
This is followed by taking time to contemplate on what’s your purpose in life. For that, you have to spot two of your strongest personality traits, express the way you interact with others and then visualise your ideal world. To narrow the gap between your reality and final success, assign a goal for each part of your vision because setting clear goals will help you track your progress.
Affirmation and visualization are the next steps to be practised. Stating your goal in a complete sentence as if it has already been achieved is an affirmation. Making affirmations that are in the first person, to the point and positive along with how you feel when you would have achieved them is very important. Studies have shown that ideas when combined with strong emotions, stick in our memory better. Once the affirmations are set, start to imagine them as detailed as possible, which is visualization. You will feel more fuelled to strive for your goals the more you can imagine it with sensory details and emotions.
The next step involves being ready to overcome obstacles or face rejections. If you face a setback or rejection, you need to have the persistence to keep pushing on until you achieve it while keeping in mind your next step. It was the sheer perseverance of Harland Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken that has made it a success story. Had he given up when he got rejected over 300 times, there wouldn’t have been more than 11,000 outlets across the world.
Now that you know what qualities should be inculcated to attain success, there is some work to be finished before starting the journey. For this, you need to chart out what needs to be done with the unfinished tasks at hand that could consume your valuable energy needed to work towards your bigger goal. A useful method would be to plan a completion weekend where you take decisions to do it, delegate it, delay it or dump it. Here delaying is not the same as procrastination but consciously assigning the tasks. Such a cleaning process can also be used in relationships to learn to forgive and move on for your benefit and peace of mind.
Now it’s time to set your thoughts in order as well. The problem most people face is the fact that you hold negative thoughts about yourselves, making yourselves the biggest enemy. The so-called limiting beliefs of focusing on things that you can’t do causes many hindrances in your progress. You must get rid of all negative thoughts and understand your true value and potential.
The journey to success is not alone, you always should have others to motivate, inspire or mentor you on your way. You can achieve this by creating a support group that includes people who are close, supportive and skilled with whom you can discuss and share ideas. Another way of building support is by seeking advice from a mentor who is already successful in the field you are pursuing. To benefit from the support system created, you have to lay firm foundations of trust, honesty and appreciation. Acknowledging and thanking the people who work with you will make them feel honoured. It is essential to build meaningful and lasting connections by adopting these values.
Redefining what wealth means to you is also important. Wealth is not just money, assets or possessions but also includes intellectual and civic aspects. Apart from monetary benefits, it is essential to focus on how relationships, health, habits and morals are connected with creating wealth. Your skills, education and reputation are also your biggest wealth and using them to your advantage will make you successful. Volunteering and setting aside time and efforts for worthy causes will also contribute to your well being and happiness.
The road to success becomes easier to conquer by equipping yourselves with these principles of understanding the purpose of life, creating proper goals and staying determined and positive.
