The book Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill depicts the way to success through perseverance and positivity. Hill shares his experiences on how he stayed away from fear through constant determination and hope. This narrative focuses on the importance of positive thinking that can lead us to reach our goals.
Here are some tips to follow to keep yourself positive
- Stay away from fear
All of us have dreams but we fear pursuing them. Hill says that 98% of people remain afraid which in turn can cause them to drift from their goals and ambitions in life. According to him, churches and schools are the first to instill fear in the minds of people. The Church asks its people to fear the Devil and schools do not let students develop their individuality, instead hyperfocus on exams and memorizing things. Napoleon had the experience of remaining in fear while pursuing his ambition of making the philosophy of individual achievement known worldwide. He was able to overcome his fear through an epiphany, where a voice tells him to complete the manuscript which he was working on. He referred to this voice which everybody has as Infinite Intelligence, i.e. faith and positive energy which will help in driving away fear.
- Clear goal and positivity
Having clarity in what you want to achieve is the primary step to success. School education or religious institutions cannot help in formulating your path. It is only ‘you’ who can do that. It is also important to remain positive throughout your life. Negative thoughts should not fill your mind even at the worst times. Now let us take a real life example. We know that in the 1930s, The Great Depression made many people lose hope in themselves and their future. At the same time people like Henry Ford, stayed positive and came up with the idea of an automobile company. So we can say that it was his determination and irrepressible positivity that led his way to success.
- Healthy habits and healthy relation as a key to success
Bad and unhealthy habits will make you stray from your goal. Habits can slowly become a daily routine. You are what you do everyday and Napoleon refers to this as the Law of Hypnotic. For example the regular habit of smoking will have a negative impact on your body and mind. This will cause the craving for nicotine to hinder your motivation to be successful through insistent craving for smoking in life. Maintaining relations with good people will also guide and motivate you to remain positive.
- Learning from failures
Failures are part of life and are the stepping stone to success. It is an opportunity to develop your goals in life. Great personalities like Thomas Alva Edison, who discovered light bulbs and other scientific inventions had to go through many failures, most famously Edison who is said to have failed 10,000 times when trying to create his lightbulb. It was his constant determination amidst the failures that made him succeed. Do not forget that there is a solution to every problem and failures will help us learn more about our work than successes.
It is our choice to remain positive and hopeful even amidst unfavorable circumstances. Remember that we must be the master of our minds. Constant determination even at the time of failures will definitely help you to succeed in life.
